It'll most likely be possible to implement a fix entirely server side so the upload itself goes through regardless of client troubles.

It could very well be a device related issue, since the optimizer kicks in if the image is either too big or the device is running low on memory in order to process the image. It could be the latter that is perhaps messing about when the app is trying to recompress the image. Will have a further look at the code and see where exactly things are messing about.

What happens if you try another 2048x2048 image or an image of the size >2mb?

In one of them I've removed the PNG identifier to "corrupt" it, and the rest are saved in 2048*1536 in 8, 24 and 32 bit, and another set in 4096*3072 in 8, 24 and 32 bit. I'll test them all to see if I can isolate any variables. But first, I'm going to have a cup of java!

The image I downloaded from DropBox has the dimensions of 1024 x 768, and a bit depth of 24. The image is 1,075,356 bytes.

Do these specs match yours? 
1409992564 falkirknh: @Hellomynameis99_, I will try to do more tests. The issue here is, I have found a small finicky client bug which exposes a much larger and obvious server one. The server one can't be highlighted without the client first having a way to upload a blank image.
